The Weighted Grade Calculator works out your true course grade by factoring in exactly how much each assignment, test, or project actually counts. In most courses, not everything carries equal weight — a final exam worth 40% of your grade has far more impact on your overall result than a homework assignment worth 5%, even if you scored higher on the homework. Simply averaging your scores across all assessments would give you a misleading picture of where you actually stand. This calculator applies each component’s correct weight to its score, combines them properly, and gives you an accurate final grade that reflects the real structure of your course. Add as many assignments or assessment types as your course includes, and the result updates immediately every time you make a change.

Formula Used: Weighted Final Grade = Sum of (Assignment Score × Assignment Weight) ÷ Sum of All Weights All weights ideally total 100% for a complete and accurate course grade representation.

How to Use the Weighted Grade Calculator

Adding your course components is quick and the result appears as you go:

Enter the Assignment Name in the first field for your own reference — for example, Midterm Exam, Lab Report, or Participation. The name does not affect the calculation but helps you keep track of which entry corresponds to which component of your course, especially when you are working with a long list.

Enter Your Score as a percentage for that component. If you scored 78 out of 100 on a midterm, enter 78. If the component was marked out of a different total, convert it to a percentage before entering — for example, 36 out of 40 would be entered as 90.

Enter the Weight of that component as a percentage. If the course syllabus states the midterm counts for 30% of your final grade, enter 30. The weights across all your components should add up to 100% for the calculation to represent your complete course grade accurately. The calculator flags a warning if the total deviates from 100% so you know if something is missing or entered incorrectly.

Click Add to include the component in your assignment table. The weighted final grade updates immediately to incorporate the new entry, and each saved component appears in a table showing its name, score, weight, and contribution to the overall result.

View the Bar Chart that displays each assignment’s score visually, making it easy to see at a glance which components you performed well in and which dragged the overall grade down — useful when deciding where to focus effort on remaining assessments.

Export to PDF using your browser’s print function if you want a clean, saved record of your full grade breakdown to keep or share.

Why Use the Weighted Grade Calculator Online?

Reflects How Your Course Is Actually Graded: A straight average of your scores assumes every assessment counts equally, which is almost never true. By applying each component’s correct weight before averaging, this calculator gives you a final grade number that matches what your instructor’s gradebook would show — not an approximation that treats a five-point quiz the same as a forty-point final.

Updates Instantly as You Add Components: Each new entry recalculates the final grade immediately without needing to click a separate button. This means you can build up your course components progressively and watch how the grade shifts with each addition — which is particularly useful for projecting your final result before all marks are in.

Weight Validation Prevents Silent Errors: If your weights do not add up to 100%, the calculator flags it with a visible warning rather than quietly producing a result based on incomplete data. This small check prevents a common mistake that can make the final grade look higher or lower than it actually should be.

Bar Chart for Score Visualization: The colorful bar chart maps each assignment’s score visually, giving you an at-a-glance view of your performance across all components. This is more immediately readable than scanning a column of numbers and helps identify outliers — both strong performances that are carrying your grade and weaker ones that are pulling it down.

Unlimited Assignments for Any Course Structure: Whether your course has three assessment types or twelve, there is no cap on the number of components you can add. The tool scales to fit the complexity of your course without any workarounds needed.
