Current Semester GPA
Cumulative GPA
Saved Semesters
- Unweighted GPA: A 4.0 scale with A=4.0, B=3.0, etc.
- Weighted GPA: Honors courses +0.5, AP/IB courses +1.0 (on top of unweighted)
- Grades below D (F) receive 0 for both unweighted and weighted.
The High School GPA Calculator gives students a clear and accurate picture of both their semester and cumulative GPA — and unlike most basic GPA tools, it handles weighted GPA as well as unweighted. That distinction matters a great deal in high school, where Honors and AP or IB courses are graded on a boosted scale to reflect their additional difficulty. A student taking a full load of advanced courses and receiving the same letter grades as a student in all regular classes should have a higher weighted GPA to reflect that greater academic challenge — and college admissions offices know this. Seeing both your unweighted and weighted GPA side by side gives you a complete picture of where you stand and how your course choices are affecting your academic record.
Formulas Used: Unweighted GPA = Sum of (Grade Points × Credits) ÷ Total Credits Weighted GPA = Sum of ((Grade Points + Course Level Bonus) × Credits) ÷ Total Credits Course Level Bonuses: Regular = 0, Honors = +0.5, AP/IB = +1.0 Grade Scale: A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, and so on down to F = 0.0
How to Use the High School GPA Calculator
Building your semester record and watching your cumulative GPA grow takes only a few steps:
Add Your Courses by entering the details for each subject in the current semester. The course name is optional and just for your own reference. What the calculator needs for each course is the number of credits, the letter grade you received or are projecting, and the course level — Regular, Honors, or AP/IB. You can add as many courses as your semester includes and remove any entry if needed.
View Your Semester GPA as it updates automatically the moment you enter course details. Both the unweighted and weighted GPA for the current semester appear immediately above the Save button, so you always have a live read on where the semester stands as you build the list.
Save the Semester by clicking Save Semester once your entries are complete. This locks the semester into your cumulative record, which updates automatically to show your running unweighted and cumulative weighted GPA across all saved semesters combined — properly weighted by credit hours throughout.
Review Saved Semesters in the history section below, which displays each saved semester with its full course details. An interactive chart maps your GPA trend across semesters so you can see at a glance whether your performance is tracking upward, holding steady, or needs attention.
Export to PDF using your browser’s print function and saving as PDF to produce a clean, portable record of your full GPA history that you can keep for your own files, share with a school counselor, or include as supporting material for applications.
Clear or Delete the current semester entries or all saved semesters using the clear and delete buttons whenever you need to start fresh.
Why Use the High School GPA Calculator Online?
Weighted and Unweighted GPA Calculated Together: The difference between these two figures is meaningful in high school — colleges look at both, and understanding the gap between them tells you a lot about how your advanced coursework is being credited. Having both calculated simultaneously from the same course list, without needing to run two separate tools, makes the comparison immediate and effortless.
Course Level Recognition for AP, IB, and Honors: The standard 4.0 GPA scale does not acknowledge the extra difficulty of advanced courses. This calculator applies the widely used bonus system — 0.5 for Honors and 1.0 for AP or IB — so your weighted GPA accurately reflects the level at which you are working, not just the grades you received.
Cumulative Tracking Across Multiple Semesters: A single semester GPA is useful, but your cumulative GPA — the figure that goes on applications and transcripts — builds across every semester of high school. Saving each semester as you go keeps an accurate running total without any manual addition, and the credit-weighted calculation ensures the cumulative result is always correct.
GPA Trend Visualization Over Time: The chart that builds as you save semesters turns your GPA history into an easy-to-read trajectory. Whether you are reviewing your own progress, preparing for a counselor meeting, or trying to understand how a difficult semester affected your overall record, this visual layer adds context that a table of numbers alone does not provide as clearly.
PDF Export Ready for Records and Applications: The browser-based export produces a clean, organized single-page PDF of your semester history and GPA figures — formatted for readability and ready to save or share without any additional editing.
Free with No Account Required: Open the calculator, enter your courses, and get accurate weighted and unweighted GPA results instantly — no sign-up, no cost, and no unnecessary steps between you and your academic data.
